MusiCo:3 has no user accounts of its own, no analytics and no ads. Your songs, settings and recordings are saved on your computer. Data only leaves your computer through Steam (Cloud saves, achievements and stats) and when you play a snippet that downloads external sounds. We, the developers, do not receive your songs or a copy of your data.
§1Who is responsible
The controller responsible for data processing under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Publisher: irgendjemand
Contact: dorr21@proton.me
§2What the app does with your data
Songs, settings and snippets
Your projects, settings (theme, font, toolbar, ASCII companion), personal snippets, piano sketches and sample-source entries are saved as files on your computer:
Unsaved drafts are kept locally so the app can recover them after a crash. Deleting the app's folder removes this data from your computer.
Recordings and exports
WAV and FLAC files you record or export are written only to the location you choose. They are never uploaded by the app.
Sonic Pi bridge (optional, Windows only)
If you turn on the experimental Sonic Pi bridge, the app talks to the Sonic Pi installation on your own computer. This connection stays on your machine.
Diagnostics
If the app offers a "Copy diagnostics" button, it copies technical information (build version, operating system, connection status, error types) to your clipboard when you click it. Nothing is sent automatically. You decide whether to share it with us.
§3Steam
MusiCo:3 is distributed through Steam, which is operated by Valve Corporation. Purchases, your Steam account and the Steam client are covered by Valve's privacy policy, not by this notice.
Your Steam ID
The app reads your Steam ID from the Steam client running on your computer. It uses it only to keep the save folders of different Steam accounts on the same computer separate. We do not receive it.
Steam Cloud
If Steam Cloud is enabled in your Steam client, your synced save files (projects, settings, snippets, piano sketches and achievement progress) are uploaded to Valve's servers so they are available on your other computers. Recordings, exports, caches and drafts are not synced. You can turn off Steam Cloud for MusiCo:3 in the game's properties in Steam.
Achievements and stats
The app sends achievement unlocks and progress counters to Steam, for example how many snippets you tried or how long you spent making music. These are numbers only, never your songs or code. They are shown on your Steam profile according to your Steam privacy settings.
§4Sound downloads
Built-in synths and the bundled piano work offline. Drum sounds and some snippets use sample collections hosted on GitHub. The first time you play them, the app downloads the files from GitHub's servers (raw.githubusercontent.com), which then see your IP address and the requested file, like any website visit. GitHub is operated by GitHub, Inc. (GitHub privacy statement). Downloaded sounds are cached so they are not fetched again every time.
If you add your own sample sources in the SAMPLES menu, the app contacts the address you entered only when you check the source or play a song that uses it. We do not control these servers.
§5Contacting us
If you email us or contact us through the Steam community hub, we use your message and contact details only to answer you. We delete emails 6 months after the conversation ends, unless we are legally required to keep them longer.
§6This website
This page runs on our own server, which we rent from RackNerd LLC. The server is located in the United States, so your IP address and request are processed there. RackNerd acts as our processor; the transfer to the USA is based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR). To deliver the page, the server has to process your IP address and the request your browser sends. We do not store access logs for this page. This page sets no cookies, loads no external fonts or scripts and uses no analytics. The theme switch only stores your choice in your own browser.
§7Legal basis
- Saving, syncing and achievement features: performance of the contract to provide the software you use, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
- Downloading sounds you choose to play and hosting this website: our legitimate interest in providing a working app and website, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
- Answering your messages: Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR, depending on the request.
§8Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal data, to data portability and to object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 15–21 GDPR). Because the app stores your data on your own computer and in your Steam account, you can delete most of it yourself. For Steam data, contact Valve. For anything else, email us at dorr21@proton.me.
You can also complain to a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is Die Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen, Prinzenstraße 5, 30159 Hannover (lfd.niedersachsen.de).
§9Changes
We update this notice when the app's features change, for example when a new online feature is added. The date at the top shows when the current version took effect.
